Today Gordon and I went for a walk around the South End. We needed to get out of the house because it’s so sunny and beautiful outside! We went down by the train tracks and then into Point Pleasant Park; on our way back we stopped to pick up groceries for dinner tonight. Tonight’s menu will be spaghetti with salad on the side and garlic bread to top it off. yum!

Sorry these photos are so sunny. We’re trying to get better at taking outfit photos and now I’ll know for next time that shade works much better for capturing my outfit. Also, I’ve had this dress forever. I wear it when I want to be completely comfortable and free! Also, it looks like my hips don’t lie in these photos but I kinda love it. BAM.

Here’s a close up of my mug so you can see my glasses! I love ’em.

Cheers!

Today Gordon and I took a walk down to the Halifax pier to take some photos. I realized when we headed out on our journey that I’ve posted this type of outfit many times. As you can tell, my daily uniform is a high-waisted skirt with a tucked-in shirt and cropped jacket/sweater. I’ve decided to post these pictures anyway though. I plan on changing up my wardrobe when the weather gets a bit warmer.

My skirt is so wrinkled in these photos! Gordon and I are in the middle of moving to a new apartment so all of our belongings are in a state of disaster and we’ve been living amongst a giant heap of clothes! The end result of our new apartment will be worth it though (stay tuned for new apartment photos).

Anyway, this weekend has started out on a positive note. Last night Gordon took me to the last show of the season for the Symphony of Nova Scotia. They played Beethoven’s 7th Symphony and it was magnificent! I had shivers running through my entire body. Some of the music was used in the score for ‘The King’s Speech’. Tonight is going to be a relaxing evening at home and tomorrow we’ll be hosting a mini easter-egg hunt!

Cheers & Love

Ah! I am have loving the weather here lately so when I heard it was going to be sunny again today I decided to walk down to this lovely little European nook on Hollis Street to take some outfit photos. I wore this outfit today in the anticipation of attending a board meeting on behalf of the Women’s Centre where I work. I wanted to present our views on an inappropriate article that was published at my university. Hopefully it went well and that the board members will see the light and be inspired to remove hateful and hurtful content in the newspaper.

All of that aside, I decided to post this outfit because of the shoes! I am loving nude shoes right now…they go with everything and they remind me of spring weather. They also make my legs look super long which can never be a bad thing. I’m now on the hunt for  good quality sandles–do you have any suggestions?

Hope you enjoy!

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve posted an outfit! Yesterday the sun was shining and the birds were chirping so I thought I’d try my hand at some colour. I wore this outfit for a walk around Point Pleasant with my grrl Gab (check out her new layout!) and then a jaunt down to Cheese Curds located in Dartmouth which was a complete fiasco in a good way. It was definitely an experience and it was well worth it (I may do a seperate post on this restaurant soon!). Anyway it’s surprising how good I felt wearing colour yesterday–vibrant and alive! It’s been awhile since we’ve seen sun so I made the best of it.

Hope everyone is enjoying some sun too!

As a response to  Dalhousie’s blogging project I’ve decided to write my own little post; not only for the fact that this topic is on constant replay in my head but because I realized that this morning when my boyfriend took these photos and I decided not to post them, I was in fact partaking in an action to deminish myself based on my appearance. That is reason enough to write about body image here today because I thought that my legs looked too short and that my head looked gigantic. I thought that my hips looked too wide and my face was too puffy and therefore they certainly weren’t good enough to be posted all over the internet.

Here’s the deal.

Basically, I’ve been self-conscious for as long as I can remember because I’ve always been chubby and carried extra fat around my waist-line (despite competitively swimming from age 10 onwards). That extra fat meant that I was somehow superior to my other friends and that somehow I was less desirable in the dating world when I got to be highschool age. The thing is, is that I don’t know if it’s because that was the way I was actually treated or if it was because I internalized the shame and just automatically assumed that role of being the ‘chubby’ one. I could write pages about how I felt in middle school and then how I felt in high-school–heck, I could even write pages about how I feel now as a college age woman in an increasingly media and image-based society but instead, I want to say that I’m tired. I’m tired of letting fat define who I am and obsessing over what I eat. I’m tired of feeling guilty when I eat chocolate and binging on it every once and awhile when I get the chance. I want to be free and freedom right now means posting pictures of my happy face in an outfit that I feel FIERCE in.

My legs might look short but they are mighty, my head might be big but damn, it houses a beautiful brain. My hips might be wide but hey, they look good in high-waisted skirts. My face might be puffy but that’s because I just woke up to greet the day with my bright eyes.

So I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: haterz to the left–and that includes me too (unless of course I’m appreciating myself for what I really am…amazing).

All you bloggers, please join me in writing about body image and leave a comment so I can read yours too!

Oh my goodness, I’ve been away from this blog for quite a long time. It’s odd how fast time flies (especially around exam/holiday time). I’m currently back in BC for the holidays and today my family and I picked up my poppy from the airport. Afterwards we headed over to a family friend’s house for a delicious brunch that was presented so beautifully. I wish I had my camera to show you how lovely the entire spread looked.

Anyway, I wanted to update everyone on some of my winter goals which I’ve actually been trying to stick to. In terms of my wardrobe re-haul, I’ve been making some progress with sticking to my strict rules of choosing classic and well-cut pieces for my wardrobe that will last me for a while. Two new things that I bought are this jean jacket and these new boots which I felt will carry my through milder winter days as well as the Spring weather in Halifax. I love the ‘tougher’ look of the jean material paired with the leather and buckle.

Oh! I wanted to post this video from my boyfriend’s best friends band in Vancouver. They’re called “The River and The Road” and all I can say is…wow. I’ve been listening to them non-stop. Here is the video for ‘I Tried’ sung by Keenan Lawlor
